LOSING TOUCH
Project Type
Costume Design & Textile Manipulation
Date
BA1 2019
Location:
Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerpen
The surface of this costume is shaped, formed and born through
outer influences defining the structure and scaffolding of the
seams just like the Hoodoo pillars of Bryce Canyon, Utah.
Taking inspiration from any landscape, I chose the Hoodoo Rock Collumns of the Bryce Canyon for this textile manipulation as on the one hand they are already having a mangiven connection to theatre - they are situated in a part of the canyon named "Amphitheatre" and on the other hand the collumns of Bryce Canyon were built by gathered material cemented into one and shaped by outer influences I found this a matching storyline to every human beings story.
I then jotted down thoughts about thinks from my enviroment and scribbled lines whenever I felt "touched" by something. In the construction process of this costume those lines then functioned as my sewing lines that slowly created the unknown shape of the costume.
